Ferdinand Strauss Early “Tombo the Alabama Coon Jigger”

This is the of the first very early German made1903 “Blue” coat version with the unique start/stop switch on the small end of the box. This was probably one of the easiest versions before they switched over to the start/stop lever action which was located on the longer side. It stands 10 1/2"l (26 cm) overall. Standing upon a tin platform with illustrations of stage curtains is a black man in colorful minstrel costume and hat, with loosely jointed arms, hips and knees. Lithography has some missing paint from years of playing with this fantastic toy. A few scratches are seen throughout this toy. When wound he dances around in amusing fashion. Marked “OH MY” on the short end of the box he stands on. Also “690” on the longer end. No reference spelled on the box to what later on would be known as the “Tombo the Alabama Coon Jigger” Even the patent dates differ. Starting in 1903 through 1912 production dates referenced on the bottom of the tin box. A very unique and not well available design toy. Trademark is the company Ferdinand Strauss Inc.
